Editing and Abridgment

Algirdas Makarevicius. Community Service: Editing, Proofreading, and Abridgment

Editing and Proofreading
Before submitting a written document for publication, it is necessary to edit and proofread it carefully. Proofreading of a written document is the final step that should be taken before it can be considered complete. I edited, proofread, revised, and abridged marketing materials, dissertations, handbooks, and short stories:
  • Research papers for postgraduate students. Hobart, Australia, 1992
  • English textbooks at Guangzhou Meisheng Corporation Ltd. Guangzhou, China, 2002
  • Internet marketing materials - handbooks, brochures, and leads at Elastix Australasia Pty Ltd. Melbourne, Australia, 2000-01
  • Doctorate dissertations in the field of health sciences. Guangzhou, China, 2004-06.

Abridgment
Text simplification for second language learners plays a crucial role in student motivation. Therefore, I abridged original English articles and short stories for ESL learners of various levels. Abridged English texts make subject matter accessible practically to all students. Here are a few links to my abridged texts:
AFTER TWENTY YEARS, by O. Henry
THE GIFT OF THE MAGI, by O’Henry
THE ADVENTURE OF THE SPECKLED BAND, by Arthur Conan Doyle
